About 8,000 poplars and elm trees were planted in Vasilyevka village, Chui region, to strengthen the banks of Chu river. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
This measure is part of «Green Project,» aimed at protecting the population and territories from mudflows and landslides. Similar work will be conducted in all regions of the country.
«Many kinds of trees, corresponding to the climate conditions of the country, will be planted, in particular, fruit bearing. In addition to protection from natural emergencies, this has two advantages: first, landscaping of the territories, and secondly, the population of foothill areas can use the fruits of trees for their needs,» the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted.
