Policeman, extorting money from foreigners, detained in Bishkek

An employee of a special rapid response force unit beat up Pakistani citizens and extorted money from them in Bishkek. Press service of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of the capital reported.

The police received a call from the foreigners yesterday, on March 25, at about 11.50 pm.

«Upon arrival at the scene, the operational investigation team of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate and the Leninsky District Department of Internal Affairs found out that approximately at 7.30 pm two unknown persons broke into a hostel room of three citizens of Pakistan. They beat the foreigners up and handcuffed them. The policeman and his accomplice put the Pakistanis in a car, took away their cell phones and money. Attackers extorted $ 2,000,» the Bishkek Police Department said.

The policeman and his accomplice sent one of the victims to search for the money. Not finding the required amount, the victim called the police.

The police officers detained the suspects at the scene.

«They were 27-year-old and 22-year-old residents of Bishkek. One of the detainees is an officer of the Special Rapid Deployment Force of the Interior Department for Chui region. During the search, the mobile phones of the victims were confiscated from the detainees,» the police reported.

A criminal case was instituted under the articles «Robbery» and «Extortion» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The detainees were placed in the pretrial detention center. The Internal Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Leninsky District Department of Internal Affairs are conducting an investigation, including with regard to the heads of the police officer.
