In 2017, a total of 11,976 earthquakes were registered in Kyrgyzstan. Such information was provided to 24.kg news agency by the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to it, 308 earth shocks reached 2-3 points or higher. There were no 6- and 7-point earthquakes.
The map presented by the institute shows in which regions of Kyrgyzstan 2-3-points earthquakes occurred most often.
«K is an energy class. The 10th energy class means a 3-4-point earthquake, the 9th class — lower and so on. We do not record earthquakes with points,» the institute explained.
For comparison, the Seismology Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic presented data for 2016 as well. Then a little more earthquakes — 12,687 — were registered. At least 305 of them had an intensity of 2-3 points or more. Six- and seven- point earthquakes were also absent, but several five-point tremors were recorded, their epicenters were not located in Kyrgyzstan, but they were felt, for example, in Alai.
