Kyrgyzstan to get $ 12 million grant for political reforms

Ratification of grant agreements between Kyrgyzstan and the Asian Development Bank was discussed today at a meeting of the Parliament.

According to the background statement, ADB assists the republic in reorienting the education sector from a planned economy to a market one. The new program supports reforms in three areas: strengthening the management of vocational education and its financing, improvement of the quality of teaching and learning conditions, as well as expanding cooperation with production and developing entrepreneurial skills.

To support these reforms, ADB provides a grant of $12 million for political reforms and $18 million grant for the project implementation.

Deputies criticized the officials for the lack of detailed information what exactly the money will be spent on.

«All 18 million are distributed up to a dollar. The construction will cost 3.4 million, training — 2.5 million, furniture — 0.77 million, equipment — 4.05 million, consulting services — 0.2 million. The equipment will be purchased through international tenders,» representative of the Ministry of Education informed the deputy.

The document was sent for voting.
