Heating and electricity tariffs not to rise, Kyrgyz officials insist

Electricity and heating tariffs for final consumers will not be increased in Kyrgyzstan till the end of 2017. The head of the State Agency for Regulation of Fuel and Energy Complex Taalaibek Nurbashev told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the government decree really provides for tariff increase by 10 percent. Currently, however, specialists are preparing amendments to reverse this decision.

We will not raise the tariffs in 2017 for sure, but we are preparing a tariff policy for 2018–2021 years. By this time, the population should realize that it is inevitable.

Taalaibek Nurbashev
He noted that the decision is not fixed in documents, but there will be no surprise for the population. «It is impossible to raise tariffs with such low salaries. We need to solve this problem first," he added.

It should be noted that the government decree stipulates: another increase in tariffs should be on April 1 — for heating, on August 1 — for electricity.
