The Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic has opened a criminal case under the article «Corruption» against Lieutenant Colonel Eldar Zhakypbekov, former head of the State Committee for National Security’s Main Department for Bishkek. The State Committee’s press center reported.
He is suspected of creating a stable criminal group, which included both active intelligence officers and civilians. The main goal of the organization was personal enrichment.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement agencies detained five individuals. The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek ordered their pretrial detention. The suspects are being held in the temporary detention facility of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the capital and pretrial detention center No. 21 of the Penitentiary Service under the Ministry of Justice.
The State Committee for National Security’s Internal Security Service conducted an internal investigation, which resulted in the imposition of strict disciplinary measures:
- six employees were dismissed from their positions;
- six employees were removed from their positions and placed under the agency’s control;
- one candidate for service was excluded from the list of candidates;
- eight employees received various disciplinary sanctions.
Security services continue to identify other individuals involved in the corrupt group’s activities. The investigation is being monitored by oversight agencies.
