In Bishkek, due to a shortage of places in schools, first-graders may be placed in nearby kindergarten buildings. Rakhat Musaeva, head of the Department of Education, said during a session of the City Council’s Permanent Commission on Social Issues.
According to her, the children will attend classes for a few hours according to a set schedule, with lessons lasting 35 minutes each. The educational process will be organized in two shifts.
«Current statistics on children may change due to internal migration. By September, we expect about 23,000 children to enter first grade and 25,000 — second grade. All second-grade students are expected to be fully accommodated in schools. Only 9,000 first-graders will be placed in schools, while the remaining 14,000 will likely attend classes in kindergarten buildings,» Rakhat Musaeva explained, noting that the final number could still change as schools continue efforts to find available classroom space.
Previously, she mentioned that children could stay at kindergartens after classes until the evening, if desired by parents. However, she now stated that this option will no longer be available.
There are currently 118 municipal kindergartens in Bishkek. It has not yet been determined which ones will host first-grade classes.
