Civil activist detained in Issyk-Kul region on suspicion of extortion

State Committee for National Security officers detained a civil activist, a member of the Public Association Eco World. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.

The detained M.N. allegedly initiated statements to higher authorities, intimidated employees of state bodies of Issyk-Kul region and extorted money from them to stop inspections.

During the investigative activities, it was established that M.N., in order to avoid detention by law enforcement agencies, organized a scheme to receive extorted funds through several mobile wallets.

According to the SCNS, the activist was detained on March 13 when receiving 52,000 soms from an employee of the Issyk-Kul Department of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service. He was placed in the pre-trial detention center No. 23 in Karakol.
