A contest among young designers of Kyrgyzstan Muras — Fashion 2025 was held in Bishkek. Journalist from 24.kg news agency attended the event.
The participants of the event were students of various universities studying design and modeling. They competed in three categories: ethnic style, avant-garde and upcycling (recycling).
«We have succeeded in creating a platform for creative youth where they can express themselves. Garment manufacturing is well developed in the country, but it is difficult for young designers to find jobs. This contest is an impetus for them to create their own brands or get a job,» Akbayan Botobayeva, director of Ak Zhooluk Public Foundation and co-organizer of the contest, said.
Upcycling
The designers gave clothes a second life using various parts of trousers, jeans and jackets. This type of fashion is widely welcomed by eco-activists, as it reduces the mass production of clothing, reminding people that any item can be reused. First place went to Nilyufer Yakubakhunova for her work «Fashion Trends Reuse», second — to Ainazik Akzholbekova with the theme «Eclectic Elegance» and third — to Aidana Mirbekova with her design «Art Knows No Borders».
Avant-garde
Models in the avant-garde category amazed the audience with their spontaneity and creativity. Each outfit challenged fashion and established design standards. In this category, Rayana Kubatbekova took first place for her outrageous design «Rebel Elegance». Second place went to Kasiet Sagyngdykova for her work «Freedom» and third — to Aidan Musamambetova for her oriental touch «Following the Panda’s Footsteps».
Ethnic style
In this category, designers showed the ethnic culture and history of the Kyrgyz people through fashion. The skirts were embroidered with patterns, the hoods and capes were decorated with ornaments. Each image carried a certain meaning and revealed the rich heritage of Kyrgyzstan. The winner in this category was Umugulsun Ubraimova with her work «Symbiosis of Cultural Traditions and Faith». The second and third places were taken by Marina Asanova with her project «Kiyal» and Elzat Nurumbetova with her design «Silk Road».
Meerimai Payazova with her work «Ak-Bashat» won the Grand Prix.
Guests from Kazakhstan also presented their works at the competition. The highlight of the show was the fashion for women aged 60+, presented by elegant models in outfits with Kazakh patterns and ornaments.
