Airstrike on UAE residence in Sudan: MFA of Kyrgyzstan expresses concern

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Kyrgyz Republic expresses its concern over message of an airstrike on the residence of the head of the diplomatic mission of the United Arab Emirates in the territory of the Republic of Sudan in the city of Khartoum.

The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced on September 30 that a Sudanese Air Force plane struck the residence of the head of the diplomatic mission in Khartoum. The building was «seriously damaged.»

The UAE Foreign Ministry described the incident as a gross violation of the principle of inviolability of diplomatic facilities and announced its intention to send an official letter to the League of Arab States, the African Union and the UN.

The situation in Sudan escalated in April 2023 due to disagreements between the head of state and the transitional sovereign council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the leader of the Rapid Response Force, which was subordinate to the Sudanese government until 2023. Following clashes that left thousands dead, the parties attempted to reach a ceasefire agreement in Jeddah, but the agreements were not implemented. On September 26, 2024, the Sudanese army launched an offensive, starting artillery and air strikes on Khartoum, seeking to regain control of the capital, lost at the beginning of the conflict.

«The Kyrgyz Republic emphasizes the importance of ensuring the security of diplomatic missions in accordance with the Vienna Convention of 1961 and calls for compliance with generally recognized principles and norms of international law,» statement of the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan says.
