Minister Kulubaev meets with U.S. Acting Under Secretary of State John Bass

On the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, held a meeting with the Acting Under Secretary of State of the United States, John Bass. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reports.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of topics concerning bilateral relations and future cooperation.

Minister Kulubaev acknowledged the valuable role of the United States in supporting Kyrgyzstan’s democratic development, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in strengthening the country’s political institutions, freedom of speech, and human rights.

Both parties highlighted the significance of recent bilateral consultations, including those held in Washington in 2023 and Bishkek in April 2024, and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the dialogue on key cooperation areas.

Jeenbek Kulubaev also underscored the importance of the C5+1 format in fostering regional cooperation, praising the successful C5+1 Secretariat meeting held in Bishkek in September 2024.

The discussions also focused on enhancing economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States. While trade between the two countries is growing, Kulubaev emphasized the need to attract more U.S. investments to Kyrgyzstan, particularly in sectors such as renewable energy sources, «green» and creative economy, as well as IT.

The Minister conveyed his appreciation for the U.S. support in repatriating Kyrgyz citizens from Syria and providing humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan’s defense institutions.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister requested U.S. support for Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.

Additionally, the Kyrgyz Republic invited the United States to participate in the Global Mountain Summit Bishkek+25 in 2027, aimed at reviewing the outcomes of the Five-Year Action Plan for Mountain Regions.
