The President of Kyrgyzstan spoke at the Summit of the Future, which is being held as part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Sadyr Japarov, the participants gathered at a critical moment in world history, when the international system is facing a crisis.
«In an era of global change, we must reconsider previously established methods of multilateral cooperation and take fundamental measures that will not only solve current challenges, but also lay a solid foundation for the well-being of future generations... The Summit of the Future is a unique platform that will lay the foundation for a new global architecture. It will work for everyone, not just for the elite.
I invite you to take an active part in the upcoming replenishment of the World Bank’s International Development Association funds, as well as in replenishing the development funds of other international financial institutions that play an important role in supporting developing countries,» he said.
The head of state noted that the International Development Association and similar organizations provide important assistance to low-income countries, contributing to the eradication of poverty, the development of infrastructure and increasing resilience to global challenges.
...To build strong bridges between the present and the future, we must strengthen the ties between peoples. The coronavirus pandemic has clearly shown that existing cooperation mechanisms do not meet modern challenges. Therefore, the Summit of the Future is considered an important platform for rethinking global relations. Today, the world community faces many challenges: an increase in the number of forced migrants, growing climate threats, an unfair distribution of resources and wealth. The success we have achieved often does not reach the most vulnerable segments of society. We need new approaches to multilateral governance based on justice. That is why we need to take decisive action as soon as possible — we do not have time to wait.
The Kyrgyz Republic is ready to contribute to this great cause. We support the adopted pact for the sake of the future. We also support the adoption of the Declaration on Future Generations, because it is future generations that will bear the brunt of our decisions today. We have to significantly accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. We have made significant progress in eradicating extreme poverty, developing infrastructure and digitalization, and in the transition to a green economy," he informed the summit participants.
