National Bank proposes to ban banks from charging fees for transfers

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has proposed to abolish fees for transfers in bank mobile applications. The draft resolution was submitted for public discussion.

The background statement says that banks and payment organizations offer a convenient product for users, providing remote access to accounts. When launched, all services in the application are free, and when the bank has a client base, fees are introduced. They reduce the attractiveness of the product and discourage customers.

For example, fees for transfers via Elcard card within the country between banks can be up to 150 soms, by VISA card in national currency — up to 250 soms, or 1 percent, in foreign currency — from 0.1 to 1 percent.

  • The goal of the draft resolution is to increase the availability and popularize banking services through mobile applications. Therefore, the draft resolution proposes to ban charging fees for money transfers in national currency.
