Kyrgyzstani sentenced to prison term for fatal accident in Russia

The Nizhnelomovsky District Court in Penza Oblast of Russia sentenced a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, who was found guilty of a fatal accident involving a truck and a minibus in January 2023.

According to the case materials, the tragedy occurred on January 13 at the 559th kilometer of the M-5 highway. The driver of a Mercedes truck, traveling on the Moscow-Kyrgyzstan route, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Volkswagen minibus, which was transporting employees of a group of companies.

As a result of the accident, the driver and passenger of the minibus died at the scene. Three more people were seriously injured.

The accused did not admit his guilt in court, claiming that the minibus drove into the oncoming lane. However, the evidence collected by the investigation refuted this version.

The court sentenced the truck driver to five years in prison and deprived him of the right to drive vehicles for two years and six months. The convicted person will remain in custody until the sentence comes into force.
