The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has created the Center for Information Environment Research. The corresponding resolution was published on the website of Erkin-Too newspaper.
The new center will operate under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy.
The document states that the center is being created to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens and legal entities, to protect them from unreliable (false) information in accordance with the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic «On Protection from Unreliable (False) Information».
The agency controlled by the Ministry of Culture will monitor the Internet and the media for compliance with the requirements of the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of information.
The Ministry of Culture has been instructed to provide premises and provide technical and communication services for the activities of the Center for Information Environment Research, as well as to register it with the Ministry of Justice.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov called for making legislative changes aimed at combating fakes and disinformation on social media.
