Kyrgyzstan breaks daily electricity consumption record

Kyrgyzstan has exceeded its daily electricity consumption of 40 million kilowatt-hours. Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced at a press conference.

According to him, due to hot weather, daily electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan exceeded 40 million kilowatt-hours, which is significantly higher than the usual 32-35 million kilowatt-hours.

Taalaibek Ibraev stressed that such a high level of electricity consumption in the country is observed for the first time. He told that the increased consumption leads to greater water consumption from reservoirs, which can create problems in the winter.

«I would like to appeal to our consumers with a request to save electricity. The more we consume now, the more water is discharged from reservoirs. If we do not start saving, then we may face problems in the winter,» the minister said.

Taalaibek Ibraev noted that the main reason for the increase in electricity consumption is the use of air conditioners in hot weather. Neighboring Kazakhstan has already begun to introduce restrictions on electricity consumption, but Kyrgyzstan is not planning such measures yet.
