Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Zhyldyz Polotova and Country Director of the United Nations World Food Program in Kyrgyzstan (WFP) Kojiro Nakai discussed issues of current cooperation and determined areas of joint work for the future. The press service of the ministry reported.
«Residents of Nookat, Kadamdzhai and Batken districts will be provided with food and money in exchange for work to restore destroyed infrastructure — cleaning canals, streets, bridges, damaged houses, restoring the water supply system. 790 families will be involved in the work. 72 tons of food and about $84,000 will be distributed among the participants,» Kojiro Nakai said.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen social assistance to people in need and expand employment coverage through the implementation of socially useful projects, participation in public works, increasing access to training and improving skills. The social contract program will also be improved.
Mudflows occurred in Nookat district of Osh region on June 28, leading to the death of people. Due to heavy rains, mudflows flooded dozens of courtyards and damaged bridges, roads and power lines. Ten people were killed.
On June 30, four people died during a mudflow in Kara-Kuldzha district of Osh region. They are all members of the same family.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 236 mudflows were registered in Kyrgyzstan from April 20 to July 1 this year, the damage from which amounted to more than 170 million soms.
