Former employee of the Academy of Sciences Zhoomart Karabaev was arrested until the end of investigation. The decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.
The application for a sanction was sent to the court by an investigator from the State Committee for National Security. The scientist has been charged with inciting mass riots. He will be kept in the pre-trial detention center until August 19.
Earlier it was reported that the former employee of the National Academy of Sciences was detained by SCNS.
According to human rights activist Gulshayir Abdirasulova, he previously openly expressed his disagreement with the activities of the security service and refused to participate in examinations in a number of cases.
«The lawyer said that Zhoomart is suspected of committing an act under Article 278, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic — «Calls for mass riots.» The lawyer believes that there are no grounds for suspicion of committing this crime, and hopes that the case will be dropped,» she explained.
The former researcher at the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhoomart Karabaev, previously testified in the case against publicist Olzhabai Shakir, who was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2024 in the case on preparing for mass riots.
