Suspects in an attack on foreign citizens in a hostel on Ogonbaev Street in Bishkek were detained. The press service of the Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported.
On the night of May 13 at about 2 a.m. in Vostok-5 microdistrict a group of guys met foreign students, asked them for cigarettes, began to nag them, asking why they were smoking there.
«After that one of the guys hit, the foreign students started to run away. They managed to run to their place of residence — a hostel on Ogonbaev Street. The group of unknown guys, chasing the foreign students, came after them into the hostel. Having used force against foreign citizens living there, they took possession of money and belongings. After receiving a physical response from the residents, they fled the scene,» the ministry said.
The Department of Internal Affairs of Sverdlovsky district opened a criminal case under Article 207 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. During the investigation, the identity of the perpetrators of the robbery in the hostel was established.
After conducting investigative measures, the suspects were detained and placed in a temporary detention center.
The investigation into the criminal case continues.
A spontaneous protest against foreigners, which began in the evening of May 17 in Bishkek, ended only in the morning of May 18. The police managed to come to an agreement with the protesters, and they opened Chui Avenue, and dispersed a little later. According to the Ministry of Health, 41 victims sought medical help as a result of the mass brawl with foreigners in Bishkek.
Following a fight on May 13 in a hostel, which was one of the reasons for the protests, the police detained four citizens of Egypt; they were later placed under house arrest. A criminal case was initiated under the article «Hooliganism» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
