Organized crime group member detained in Osh city for extortion

Investigators of the Third Division of the Main Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan detained a resident of Osh region for extorting money through blackmailing. The department reported.

A resident of Osh contacted the police in January with a request to take action against persons extorting a large sum of money.

«Two strangers, threatening with physical violence, took away 70,000 soms. It turned out that now the same people are extorting 200,000, blackmailing with the dissemination of information discrediting honor and dignity,» the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 208 «Extortion» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. One of the suspects has been convicted several times and is known in criminal environment.

The suspect was caught red-handed on January 16 on the parking lot of one of the shopping centers of the southern capital while receiving part of the extorted amount — 100,000 soms.

A resident of Kara-Suu district, 29, nicknamed Koen, who is registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a member of an organized crime group and previously convicted, was detained. He was placed in a temporary detention facility.

The investigation is ongoing.
