Bishkek City Hall plans to build Northern Highway instead of the Big Chui Canal. Director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure Ulan Uezbaev told 24.kg news agency.
According to him, this is a project for the future; its implementation will not begin in the near future.
«It is very expensive. When the issue of financing is resolved, then we will begin. But today we need to look into the future, consider projects to relieve congestion on the streets. Both the construction of interchanges and the relocation of the railway are being considered,» the official noted.
He explained that the canal itself will not be removed, the water will be released through collectors (pipes), and a six-lane highway will be built above them.
«This is what they do in many large cities — they release water through collectors, and build a road above them,» Ulan Uezbaev added.
