Taalaibek Daiyrbekov: Monorail is a utopia, metro is a new perspective

It is necessary to think about the construction of a metro in the capital. Deputy of the City Council Taalaibek Daiyrbekov stated at the round table «Sustainable Development of Bishkek: Main Trends in Transport Development.»

The head of the transport department, Ulan Uezbaev, who spoke before him, expressed regret that there is no metro in the city. «It would greatly relieve part of the city. But this is a very expensive project. However, in the future, we hope that we will build it sooner or later,» he noted.

Taalaibek Daiyrbekov said that such statements «touch to the heart.»

«When they used to ask the chief architect and the City Hall whether they were considering building a metro in the future, everyone looked at me like I was crazy. But we should already think about this, because endlessly moving streets and expanding them by cutting down trees is a thing of the past. One mayor has already become famous for this. Another one talked about the monorail. But the monorail is a utopia. Therefore, if you, Ulan Kalmyrzaevich (Uezbaev — Note of 24.kg news agency), put forward the construction of the metro, we will categorically support you. This is a new perspective. You don’t have to go far — it was built in Almaty. The only thing, knowing our realities, I would like to warn that the municipality does not build the metro itself. You won’t be able to build. Give it to outsourcing,» he concluded.
