Photo of the day: Glaciers are disappearing in Issyk-Kul region

Glaciers are disappearing in Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. The President of the National Academy of Sciences, Kanat Abdrakhmatov, posted on Facebook.

He published photographs of Jerooy glacier, which is located south of Temir-Kanat village (Ton district).

«From 1962 (photo on the left) to 2003 (photo on the right), the glacier’s length decreased by 450 meters. If this continues, it will disappear in the next 20-30 years,» Kanat Abdrakhmatov posted.

He added that the same is happening with other glaciers in the mountains surrounding not only Issyk-Kul lake, but throughout the Tien Shan.
