More than 80 large settlements classified as earthquake-prone are located in the zone of possible earthquakes. The National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan provided the data with reference to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
About 75 percent of the republic’s population lives in them. In 2022, about 59 emergencies of various types were registered, resulting in 135 deaths.
At least 1,298 residential buildings, 54 road facilities, 29 industrial and commercial facilities, 5,600 hectares of agricultural land were damaged. Economic damage from all types of emergency situations amounted to more than 4.6 billion soms.
