Russia to ban wheat exports

A draft government decision has been published in Russia banning the export of durum wheat from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024. The corresponding draft resolution was posted on the portal of regulatory acts.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan noted that within the framework of the decisions of the EAEU, a forecast and indicative balance of supply and demand is annually compiled. Each state provides production forecasts for certain types of agricultural goods that can be exported, and the required volume for imports to cover the needs of the population.

As part of the indicative balance of the EAEU, a decision on supply and demand on import and export volumes is made annually.

«According to the approved indicative demand and supply, all states undertake obligations to supply goods in approved volumes. As of today, Kyrgyzstan will have enough volume until the end of the year. The decision introduced by the Russian Federation to restrict exports, according to preliminary data, concerns third countries. This means that supplies of food wheat grain from Russia to Kyrgyzstan under agreements within the EAEU continue. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan, in turn, banned the export of food wheat and flour for a period of six months on September 12, 2023,» the Ministry of Agriculture said.
