«Our organization is open and in demand, evidence of this is the expansion of the SCO family,» Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said today at a meeting of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
According to him, thanks to joint work, Iran received the status of a full member of the SCO. The legal registration of granting Belarus the status of a member state of the organization is at the final stage.
In addition, the head of the Cabinet raised several other important issues:
- It is important to ensure security in the region, coordinate national initiatives in this matter and create a center in Bishkek to combat international organized crime.
- It is worth paying attention to improving the work of the SCO and changing some of its statutory documents.
- Development of economic cooperation is one of the main issues on the agenda. It is important to continue working to enhance cooperation in all areas.
- The issue of creating a Development Bank and an SCO Development Fund has been discussed for a long time, although these organizations would provide direct assistance in the implementation of joint projects and a further gradual increase in the share of the national currency in mutual settlements of the SCO member states.
- To create favorable conditions and sustainable social and economic development of the region, it is proposed to begin work on creating a «common economic market» based on modern innovative principles of development.
- Improvement of the transport system of the SCO member states will attract additional volumes of international transit traffic and contribute to a significant increase in trade turnover between the countries.
- Strengthening cooperation in the field of e-commerce, e-customs and e-logistics and the concept of a digital meeting of buyers and sellers from the SCO region, adopted today at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, will open up opportunities in this direction.
- It is important to promote expanded cooperation on environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, and mitigation of its consequences. Kyrgyzstan proposes to join efforts in the fight against climate change, air and water pollution and the preservation of biological diversity.
- Kyrgyzstan supports Kazakhstan’s initiative to develop and approve a draft program for the development of cooperation in the field of selection and seed production of agricultural crops between SCO member states.
- Issues of development and implementation of renewable energy sources in the energy sector are also an important condition for economic development and competitiveness in the modern world.
- It is necessary to cooperate in the areas of tourism, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, which have significant potential as an effective factor in strengthening mutual understanding between peoples.
