Iran invites SCO countries to conclude non-aggression pact

Advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, General Rahim Safavi, during his visit to China proposed the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to conclude a «non-aggression pact». The Fars news agency reported.

«I propose that joint security and lasting peace should be realized first among the SCO member countries, a model for this action would be the conclusion of a non-aggression pact among the SCO members,» he said.

The SCO is a regional international association that includes nine countries: Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

As part of security cooperation, the SCO member countries regularly hold joint anti-terrorist exercises, the largest of which is «Peace Mission» (held since 2003).

Iran became the ninth member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on July 4, 2023. The country has been an SCO observer since 2005.
