First SCO Transport Forum ends in Tashkent

The first Transport Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) ended in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). One of the results of the meeting of the member countries was memorandums on the creation of two transport corridors — from Belarus to Pakistan through Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and from Russia to Kyrgyzstan through the Caspian Sea and Uzbekistan. The press service of the CIS Executive Committee reported.

The Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the formation and development of the international multimodal transport corridor Russia — Caspian Sea — Turkmenistan — Uzbekistan — Kyrgyzstan. Ilkhom Makhkamov, Dmitry Zverev and the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic Tilek Tekebaev signed the document.

For the further development of the transport and logistics potential of the SCO member states, it is necessary to organize alternative transport lines, harmonize standards in the field of transport, and apply a flexible tariff policy; construct large multimodal logistics centers along transport arteries and border areas; organize work at border control points 24/7 and simplify the visa issuance process; introduce digital technologies and intelligent systems and exchange the best practices in the field of logistics.

The purpose of the meeting was to step up cooperation between representatives of the transport and logistics sector of the SCO countries and create effective transport corridors, the statement says.
