Vice Chancellor of Germany outlines areas that may be of interest in Kyrgyzstan

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic met with the Vice Chancellor, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany during his working visit to Berlin.

They discussed a wide range of issues of Kyrgyzstan — Germany bilateral cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres.

Sadyr Japarov stressed that this meeting with the Kyrgyz side demonstrates the willingness of the federal government to focus in partnership with Kyrgyzstan on issues of economy, ecology and combating climate change.

In turn, Robert Habeck noted the interest of Germany in considering a new partnership in its trade policy, in particular, it concerns the countries of Central Asia.

He stressed that German companies, before investing abroad, study what conditions are offered by this or that country. Robert Habeck added that his task is to have a conversation with potential German investors for their possible attraction to the Kyrgyz market.

He outlined three areas in Kyrgyzstan that could potentially be of interest to German entrepreneurs: raw materials, renewable energy sources and human resources.

Speaking about trade and economic cooperation with Germany, Sadyr Japarov noted that trade turnover increased by 138 percent last year, amounting to $180 million.

He noted that Germany has been and remains one of the main trade partners of Kyrgyzstan in the European Union. In the near future, the Kyrgyz side intends to focus its efforts not only on increasing trade turnover, but also on equalizing the trade balance by increasing export supplies.

Speaking about the level of mutual investments between Kyrgyzstan and Germany, the head of state noted that the potential is far from being fully realized. The Kyrgyz Republic is interested in attracting investments from Germany, as well as from other EU member states.

Sadyr Japarov believes that potential investors may be interested in the favorable location of the Kyrgyz Republic on the logistics routes between China and Europe.
