President wants Medtronic's innovative developments to be available in country

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic held a working meeting with the management of Medtronic medical device company in New York (USA).

According to the press service of the head of state, Medtronic is one of the leading and largest medical companies in the world in terms of innovative developments, the largest manufacturer of modern medical equipment and unique medical devices in six main areas — cardiovascular diseases, including acute myocardial infarction and heart rhythm disorders; cardiac surgery; neuromodulation; spinal surgery; diabetes and surgical navigation technologies using robots and artificial intelligence for the diagnosis and treatment of more than 70 chronic diseases.

Possibilities of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed, in particular, exchange of experience and transfer of best practices in realization and introduction of high technologies in medicine.

Taking into account the fact that up to 52 percent of deaths in Kyrgyzstan are due to cardiovascular diseases, Sadyr Japarov noted that one of the strategic objectives of the state is to create an effective national system for providing affordable and high-quality medical care to patients with cardiovascular diseases. These measures should be aimed at preventing and treating such diseases and reducing mortality among the population.

He expressed interest in cooperation with Medtronic. As part of the cooperation, it will be possible to reduce the cost of stenting heart vessels significantly. For example, if a stenting kit currently costs approximately $2,000-2,500, then it will be possible to reduce the price directly from the manufacturer to $400. It will be possible to introduce advanced world technologies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Kyrgyzstan.

The President instructed the Ministry of Health to work out the details of cooperation and begin practical cooperation (supply of affordable and high-quality medical equipment and consumables to Kyrgyzstan) starting next year.

Sadyr Japarov was informed about an agreement reached on the creation of a high-tech cardiovascular cluster — an expert center based on the National Center of Cardiology and Therapy named after Mirrakhimov.
