President about Kyrgyzstan's priorities, development of Central Asian countries

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, speaking in New York (USA) at the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, touched upon the issue of development of the Central Asian region.

«We, representatives of the kindred peoples of Central Asia, are proud of our many thousands of years of history and culture. We have much in common in traditions and customs. Many things bring us together in terms of similarity of mentality, psychology, world perception and worldview,» Sadyr Japarov said.

According to him, the ongoing global processes have a direct impact on stability and security in the Central Asian region, and on the other hand, strengthen its role and importance.

Strengthening relations with the countries of the region is a natural top priority for the country.

The head of state noted with satisfaction that regional interaction in Central Asia has been developing consistently and in all directions in recent years.

«I see our region as a single geo-economic space, where all forms of economic cooperation and interaction are successfully formed. I see our region as a geopolitical mediator through which interaction and cooperation of members of the international community is realized. I see our region as actively interacting and dynamically developing communities that share and support similar cultural, historical and traditional values and ideas,» he added.

Sadyr Japarov also noted that Kyrgyzstan intends to contribute to strengthening regional cooperation, find new effective formats of cooperation and at the same time actively interact with various world centers of influence in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

The President also admitted that on the way to full-fledged regional integration it is necessary to complete the solution of issues of legal registration of state borders.

«Exactly one year ago, speaking from this podium, I informed with pain in my heart about the tragic events that took place last September in connection with the armed clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, which led to numerous victims. Thanks to the restraint of our peace-loving people and the prevailing political will of both sides, we managed to prevent further escalation of the conflict and to avert a full-scale bloody war in the region. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that Kyrgyzstan has always advocated and stands for resolving disputes exclusively through peaceful diplomatic means based on the principles and norms of international law, such as territorial integrity and non-use of force or threat of its use,» the president said.

We have never sought to take what is not ours, but we will not allow anyone to take away a single inch of our native land. We always strive for dialogue and search for mutually acceptable solutions based on trust and mutual respect.

Sadyr Japarov

«Last December, after almost 30 years of negotiations, we signed an agreement with Uzbekistan on the legal formalization of the state border. This historic decision, achieved thanks to the manifested political will of the heads of the two states, has opened the broadest prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation and peaceful coexistence of the two countries and peoples. We adhere to the same approach in the negotiations now,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He added that the people want to live with all their neighbors in peace, harmony and friendship.

The President also spoke about security and stability in Central Asia, which should be considered in the context of the situation in Afghanistan.

«I consider it extremely important to remind the international community that the people of Afghanistan are experiencing significant difficulties, which are intensified by the lack of a coordinated position of the world community with regard to the situation in this country. It will not be an exaggeration on my part if I say that Afghanistan is threatened by a humanitarian crisis with its inevitable consequences for the security of not only the surrounding regions, but also for the entire world community. Kyrgyzstan is interested in a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. We call on the international community to continue providing humanitarian and economic assistance to the Afghan people,» the President of Kyrgyzstan said.
