Uzbekistan to introduce "golden visas" for foreign nationals starting June 1

Beginning June 1, 2025, Uzbekistan will implement a simplified procedure for obtaining a five-year residence permit for foreign citizens and stateless persons, according to a presidential decree signed on April 18, the Ministry of Justice reported.

To obtain this residence permit, applicants must contribute $200,000, plus $100,000 for each family member (spouse, children, and parents).

The residence permit is an official document that confirms a foreign citizen or stateless person has been granted permission to reside permanently in Uzbekistan.

To date, residence permits in Uzbekistan are issued to certain categories of citizens:

  • Foreign citizens or stateless persons permanently residing in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan — upon reaching the age of 16;
  • Persons who have received, in the manner prescribed by the regulation, a permit for permanent residence in the territory of Uzbekistan, including persons who have returned to the country, whose citizenship of Uzbekistan has been terminated in accordance with the law;
  • Citizens of countries included in the list of countries, whose citizens have the right to obtain a residence permit in Uzbekistan subject to the purchase of real estate in Tashkent region and Tashkent — in the equivalent of at least $300,000; Samarkand, Bukhara, Namangan, Andijan, Fergana and Khorezm regions — in the equivalent of at least $200,000; in Karakalpakstan and other regions of the republic — in the equivalent of at least $ 100,000;
  • Persons permanently residing in the territory of Uzbekistan, but who have not obtained the citizenship of the country or whose citizenship of Uzbekistan has been terminated in accordance with the law.

Uzbekistan has had a program for providing citizens of 109 countries with a residence permit upon purchase of real estate for a certain amount since 2019.
