New small HPPs to be built on Gulcha river at expense of RKDF

The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) plans to allocate $4.2 million for the construction of a small hydroelectric power station on Gulcha river in Alai district of Osh region. The press service of the fund reported.

The project is being implemented by Alai Hydro LLC. The new hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 9 megawatts will cover the need for electricity in Alai district by 86 percent. The station will have modern high-tech equipment.

«The state is making unprecedented efforts to develop the energy industry. Over the past six months, a number of strategically important laws have been adopted that will speed up the implementation of hydropower projects in the near future. The fund does not stand aside from this work. The construction of the small hydropower plant on Gulcha river is the eighth project in this area that the RKDF has begun to implement over the past two years,» Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the RKDF, said.

The total capacity of projects implemented by the fund is 153 megawatts. This is almost 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The total cost of HPP projects is $183.6 million, of which the fund allocated $72 million. Each project will not only help reduce the energy shortage in the Kyrgyz Republic, but will also be a good help to increase production capacity and create new jobs.

«We hope that this hydroelectric power station will soon generate electricity that will be in great demand by the inhabitants of this district,» Igor Maslov, Chief of the Presidential Directorate for Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts with Foreign Countries, said.
