Writers, poets, akyns and public figures appealed to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Kamchybek Tashiev with a request to stop the criminal prosecution against journalist and publicist Olzhobai Shakir. The petition was posted on Facebook.
The signatories (more than 100 people. — Note of 24.kg news agency) note that the arrest of Olzhobai Shakir was a big mistake and the charges against him are not true.
«But we cannot turn a blind eye to the truth: we can be sure that he is not a criminal, not a corrupt official and not a traitor. Haven’t the three previous coup d’état proved that the days of the authorities held hostage by flatterers are quickly ending? Olzhobai is a public figure who devotes himself to the cultural and educational work for the people, works tirelessly day and night, without receiving a salary, having made an office out of his house. The lack of desire to resolve the issue by words, arguments and disrespect for the law opens the way for those who want to stage a coup,» the appeal says.
Recall, the journalist Olzhobai Shakir was detained by employees of the State Committee for National Security on August 23. He is accused of calling for active disobedience to law enforcement officers, riots and an attempt to seize power.
Earlier, Olzhobai Shakir called on citizens to hold a rally. He intended to organize a protest on August 31. The journalist said that he was against transfer of four resorts in Issyk-Kul region to Uzbekistan.
