Foreign Minister discusses fight against drug trafficking with UN Representative

Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev met with the newly appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia — Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Kaha Imnadze, who arrived in Bishkek as part of a tour of the region. Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to it, Jeenbek Kulubaev congratulated the head of the Regional Center on the appointment to the high post and expressed hope that the initiatives and active work of the Regional Center will serve the purpose of strengthening cooperation between the states of the region.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation between the Regional Center and Central Asian states, in particular, countering terrorism and combating drug trafficking, equitable use of water and energy resources, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev called on the UNRCCA to play a more active role in accordance with its mandate in preventive activities and assisting Central Asian countries in effectively responding to security challenges and threats.

Kaha Imnadze expressed readiness to contribute to the development and prosperity of Central Asian states and thanked the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for wishing success in the implementation of his mission in Central Asia.
