Another batch of food, provided by Russia to the UN World Food Programme (WFP), has arrived in Kyrgyzstan. The WFP reported.
According to it, 1,397 tons of food (1,215 tons of fortified flour and 182 tons of vegetable oil) were delivered to the WFP warehouses in Bishkek and Osh.
«This contribution will provide support to vulnerable families across the country through projects that will help restore public infrastructure, mitigate climate change and provide hot meals in schools,» WFP said.
The food products will be distributed among approximately 5,200 families (26,000 people) to improve their food security as a reward for participation in WFP-supported projects across the country. Projects include rehabilitation of irrigation networks and drinking water supply systems; planting trees and reinforcement of riverbanks to reduce risks; construction of rural bridges and drainage systems; capacity building trainings for livelihood development and advanced agricultural practices.
«Targeted vulnerable families will receive 300 kilograms of fortified wheat flour and 30 liters of vegetable oil in exchange for participation in community projects aimed at restoring local infrastructure and increasing the resilience of the population to disaster risks and climate change-related shocks. Participants of the capacity building trainings will receive 150 kilograms of fortified wheat flour and 15 liters of vegetable oil. These projects will not only improve infrastructure in remote communities and strengthen their ability to mitigate the effects of natural disasters in areas vulnerable to natural disasters and climate risks, but will also improve their employment and self-employment prospects,» the WFP noted.
