Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev met with the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbaev within his official visit to Kazakhstan. Press service of the Parliament reported the details.
According to it, the parties discussed issues of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries. They exchanged views on aspects of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Nurlanbek Shakiev noted the high role of the heads of state and Parliaments in the development of relations between the two fraternal countries. He noted that the states should focus on expanding contacts in all areas and successful implementation of the agreements reached, stressed the special importance of parliamentary diplomacy as an effective mechanism for strengthening Kyrgyzstan — Kazakhstan relations.
Trade and economic relations were also discussed at the meeting. Nurlanbek Shakiev said that the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan were tasked to increase the volume of trade to $2 billion in the near future. In 2022, it reached $1.2 billion, having increased by 13.8 percent since 2021.
«We shouldn’t stop there. We need to implement joint projects in promising areas of cooperation. For example, the construction of Cholpon-Ata — Almaty highway will expand the tourism opportunities of the two countries. Along with this, solving the problems of cargo carriers on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, removal of obstacles related to the passage of cargo through the territory of Kazakhstan are also of great importance,» he said, asking when considering bills related to the migration policy of Kazakhstan, to take into account the legal status of Kyrgyz migrants.
Maulen Ashimbaev noted that Kyrgyzstan is one of the main partner countries for Kazakhstan, and stressed that the main goal is to enhance relations between the two peoples with similar traditions, customs, language and religion. He dwelled in detail on the current state of bilateral relations, outlining the great role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation.
The Chairman of the Senate added that the issue of providing benefits to citizens of Kyrgyzstan working in the Republic of Kazakhstan is being considered on the basis of an interstate agreement concluded in 2012.
During the conversation, Maulen Ashimbaev also raised issues of digitalization and development of IT technologies, building up contacts in the field of investments and exchanging experience in the field of legislation. He noted the successful work of Kyrgyz IT companies in Kazakhstan.
