Key direction of foreign policy of Kyrgyzstan is cooperation with EU

«The key direction in foreign policy is the interaction of Kyrgyzstan with the European Union. This was also the topic of our conversation,» the head of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said following the talks with the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

According to him, the parties held substantive and fruitful negotiations. A wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Germany was discussed, and further joint steps were outlined to strengthen political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Kyrgyzstan and Germany expressed their readiness to enhance partnership in all areas of mutual interest.

«We have been successfully cooperating for over 30 years. Our relations can be characterized as long-term and friendly. I express my deep gratitude to our German friends for the successfully implemented and ongoing projects in the country with the assistance of the Federal Republic of Germany. They are certainly very important for our people. The Kyrgyz Republic highly appreciates friendly relations with Germany and aims to further expand them in all areas, especially in current international conditions. One of the concrete steps could be the exchange of high-level visits to discuss specific areas of cooperation,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He stressed that Germany is one of the important trade and economic partners for Kyrgyzstan in the European direction. In recent years, the trade turnover between the countries has increased almost 2.5 times.

«In the future, special attention will be paid to the issues of increasing foreign trade turnover between our states. In 2022, the Kyrgyz-German Business Council was created, the next meeting of which will be held in Germany in November. We expect that the work of the Council will greatly contribute to the flow of foreign investment and modern technologies into the Kyrgyz Republic,» the head of state said.

He also drew attention to the fact that Kyrgyzstan is a producer of high-quality and organic agricultural products. The republic already supplies its products to European markets. It is ready to expand cooperation with German partners in this direction as well. All these measures will undoubtedly contribute to the strengthening of economic ties between the two countries.

«We have identified issues of interaction in the field of renewable energy sources, green economy, as well as labor resources as promising areas of partnership. We could not, of course, ignore issues of a humanitarian nature. Education and employment of youth, modern technologies and science, climate and environmental protection were also in the spotlight,» said Sadyr Japarov.

He noted the growing interest of Germany and Kyrgyzstan in mutually beneficial cooperation. At the same time, there is a large unused potential of bilateral cooperation between the countries. He invited the President of Germany to make joint efforts to unlock it.

«The dynamics of recent years shows that the importance of the Central Asian region is growing. New formats and platforms for country and regional interaction are being created. The Kyrgyz Republic has always supported an open regional partnership and continues to adhere to this principle. Obviously, the principles of open borders, good neighborliness and cooperation are the key to joint successful social and economic development,» the president concluded.
