There are only 15 archaeologists in Kyrgyzstan. The Minister of Culture Altynbek Maksutov announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on social policy.
According to him, only 5-8 people get a license for work every year.
«This profession lost its relevance after the collapse of the Soviet Union. After gaining independence, we do not conduct research on historical heritage. Money is not allocated for the field of archeology. Therefore, young people do not choose the profession of an archaeologist. But we are working in this direction. Only 14 people study at the Kyrgyz National University in their third year,» Altynbek Maksutov told.
