Turkish company to develop gold and antimony mines in Kyrgyzstan

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov met with representatives of the Turkish company Eti Bakir Tereksay headed by the Chairman of the Board of DirectorsŞeref Cengiz. Press service of Office of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

Participants of the meeting discussed topical issues of the production activities of the Kyrgyz-Turkish enterprise, including as part of the implementation of environmental requirements and social obligations.

The management of the enterprise thanked the Cabinet of Ministers for supporting the company’s activities in the development of Terekkan, Perevalnoye gold mines and the Terek gold-antimony mine.

In order to further implement the project on development of Terekkan, Perevalnoye and Terek fields, an investment agreement was signed between the Cabinet of Ministers, Eti Bakir JSC and Eti Bakir Tereksay LLC.

As a result of the meeting, a number of tasks were set before the relevant state bodies and local authorities.

Terek-Sai mine is located in Terek-Sai village of Chatkal district, Jalal-Abad region. More than 500 Kyrgyzstanis work at the enterprise.

Eti Bakir Tereksay LLC, a joint venture between Kyrgyzaltyn (25 percent) and the Turkish company Eti Bakir (75 percent) won a competition for the development of Terek, Terekkan and Perevalnoye gold deposits in Chatkal district of Jalal-Abad region in 2015.

The activity of the enterprise has been accompanied by provocations and disputes from the very beginning. In 2018, a conflict broke out on the territory of Eti Bakir Tereksay with the participation of local residents. The reason is that 62 households on Myrzabaev Street in Terek-Sai village fell under the license area of the LLC.

In connection with this, it was decided to resettle the residents to another place. The company informed that the land plots and houses would be purchased based on the calculations of an independent appraisal commission. However, the locals do not want to leave the land.
