EU to finance green economy support program in Kyrgyzstan

The Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev and the Director of the European Union for Asia, Central Asia, Pacific and Middle East Peteris Ustubs signed an agreement on financing a green economy program in the Kyrgyz Republic. Press service of the Ministry of Economy reported.

The project will be implemented as part of the multi-year indicative program of the European Union for Kyrgyzstan, funded through the Global Europe Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument. Germany and Switzerland are also donor countries.

Minister of Economy and Commerce Daniyar Amangeldiev noted that the European Union, Germany and Switzerland have been constantly supporting the ongoing reforms in the country since the independence of Kyrgyzstan. To date, cooperation is conducted on all mutually beneficial issues, at all levels and in various formats.

«All this testifies to our constant active dialogue and joint desire to expand and deepen the areas of cooperation. We intend to continue our long-term cooperation with the European Union, Germany and Switzerland in order to maintain the positive momentum in the process of achieving our common goals,» the minister stressed.

The EU contribution under the agreement will be implemented through co-financing of the existing Green Economy and Sustainable Development of the Private Sector in Kyrgyzstan program. Additional funds will be used to develop green economy policies, further strengthen value chains and communicate for social and behavioral change.
