Aigul Japarova participates in Summit of Spouses of European Leaders

The First Lady of Kyrgyzstan Aigul Japarova took part in the Summit of the Spouses of European Leaders and launch of the Network on the Prevention of Childhood Obesity in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Zagreb (Croatia). Press service of the President reported.

In her speech, Aigul Japarova noted the importance of the event, emphasizing that the goal of establishing the Childhood Obesity Prevention Network in the WHO European Region deserves welcome and support. She added that, according to WHO studies, there is an acute problem of obesity among children in the world, including in Kyrgyzstan.

«Measures are being taken in Kyrgyzstan to prevent obesity among children: breastfeeding for at least six months, formation of healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition skills among the population, implementation of state programs to organize improved nutrition for students of primary grades. Sharing the best practices between countries is of particular importance in addressing childhood obesity. This is the big role of today’s summit,» she said.

The First Lady expressed confidence that the summit, as a platform for the exchange of best practices in the prevention of obesity among children, will undoubtedly yield positive results.

She cited the proverb of the Kyrgyz people: «Manzha bashka — bilek bir, zhurok bashka — tilek bir» (You can’t do anything without effort, you won’t achieve the goal without striving), noting that the participants of the summit came from different countries, but everyone is united by one very important issue — the health of children.

«The Kyrgyz Republic supports the adoption of the Zagreb Declaration on the establishment of the Network on the Prevention of Childhood Obesity in the European Region of the WHO. I, as a mother and grandmother, will support all initiatives and activities aimed at improving the health of children,» Aigul Japarova concluded.

The Zagreb Declaration was adopted as a result of the summit.
