Czech experts assess situation at Bishkek landfill

Czech experts from the consortium of HDT Impex s.r.o. and ReGreen s.r.o. companies together with the Deputy Mayor of Bishkek Zhyrgalbek Shamyraliev visited the Bishkek landfill. Press service of the City Hall reported.

The purpose of the trip was to assess the current situation and discuss the solution to the issue of extinguishing garbage fires.

The City Hall noted that on behalf of the head of state and the mayor, a fight against smoke is being carried out at the landfill. The terracing method is now used to localize internal gases. To date, the smoke is brought under control by 95 percent.

City Hall of the capital has signed a protocol of intent to cooperate with the Czech consortium of companies HDT Impex s.r.o. and ReGreen s.r.o. and a roadmap for the implementation of a joint investment project for the construction of a waste processing complex.

The project for the reclamation of the Bishkek sanitary landfill and improvement of the situation with the disposal of municipal solid waste in the city began to be prepared back in 2011, the loan agreement was signed only in 2013, and ratified in 2015. As part of the project, EBRD and the European Union allocated €22 million in the form of a grant and a loan. A little over €6 million is left of the allocated amount.

In January, the Accounts Chamber revealed financial irregularities in the use of loans and grants under the project «Improvement of the Solid Waste Management System in Bishkek».

The prosecutor’s office opened four criminal cases on €22 million allocated in 2013 for the construction of a waste processing plant.
