European Immunization Week starts in Kyrgyzstan

European Immunization Week has started in Kyrgyzstan. The Deputy Minister of Health Bubuzhan Arykbaeva told at a press conference.

According to her, this year the week is organized under the auspices of the WHO’s Catch Up Vaccination Campaign, which aims to address the alarming decline in childhood vaccination rates around the world.

«The event is held to draw public attention to immunization as one of the main preventive measures to protect the population from infectious diseases. Its goal is to highlight the importance of ensuring equitable and widespread access to vaccines, which contributes to a long and healthy life for every person,» Bubuzhan Arykbaeva said.

She added that there is reason to believe that since 2020 some children have missed one or more doses of the vaccine, including the first dose of the measles vaccine.

«It is necessary that parents understand the importance of completing the full course of vaccination of their children and use every opportunity to make sure that they do not miss a single dose of the vaccine, and in case of a missed one, catch it up as soon as possible,» the Deputy Minister explained.

According to her, during the week, 76 mobile teams will be additionally involved in routine and catch-up immunization.

European Immunization Week is supported by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
