Activist Ilgiz Shamenov, who is being held in the Bishkek remand center 1 on charges of attempt to organize mass riots in order to seize power, was hospitalized in a private clinic. His lawyer Baktybek Avtandil confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.
According to him, Ilgiz Shamenov’s chronic diseases worsened: gastritis, cholecystitis and pyelonephritis. He was hospitalized for examination and treatment.
The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek will on April 12 consider a petition to allow Shamenov to fully participate in the election of a deputy from Leninsky single-mandate district on an equal basis with other candidates so that he can campaign and debate, the lawyer said.
The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. A number of international human rights organizations such as the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now and others issued a statement calling for the immediate release of politicians and activists arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
