Women’s NGOs appealed to President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov regarding the representatives of the Committee for Protection of Kempir-Abad, kept in Bishkek remand center 1 on charges of organizing mass riots in order to seize power.
In their letter, the signatories (more than 100 organizations and more than 4,000 signatures on social media. — Note of 24.kg news agency) noted that the arrested women in their civil and professional activities proved to be strong leaders, high-level professionals and patriots of their country.
«It is hard to believe that they would risk their political capital and reputation by taking part in illegal actions, calling for or even more so organizing preparations for the commission of a crime — organizing mass riots accompanied by violence, pogroms, arson, destruction of property, use of firearms, explosives substances or explosive devices or the provision of armed resistance to a representative of the authorities. They are wonderful mothers, grandmothers and the words «peace», «stability», «justice» are very important to them. When bringing such serious charges, it is especially important to conduct a very thorough, fair and transparent investigation in compliance with all legal procedures,» the signatories stressed.
They recalled that the Institute of Ombudsman, a number of human rights organizations and international institutions had reported violations during searches, holding of «night hearings», and the choice of a preventive measure in form of detention for a period of two months. Human rights defenders emphasized that, in accordance with international human rights norms and standards and national legislation, detention should be used only in cases that are reasonable, necessary and provided for by law.
Neglect of human rights and non-compliance with laws have repeatedly led to severe historical consequences.
«We are convinced that you, as the guarantor of the Constitution of the country, the rights and freedoms of every citizen, will demand a transparent and fair investigation from law enforcement agencies and the judiciary!» the authors of the appeal wrote.
At least 17 defendants in the criminal case on attempt to seize power by force, held in the Bishkek remand center 1, went on a hunger strike. The condition of ex-deputy of the Parliament Orozaiym Narmatova and activist Perizat Suranova has deteriorated sharply.
The arrested placed all responsibility for the consequences of the hunger strike personally on the president of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchibek Tashiev, Minister of Internal Affairs Ulan Niyazbekov, Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev and the investigators, prosecutors and judges.
