Repair of canals and water facilities in Kyrgyzstan will be completed by December 25. Almazbek Sokeyev, Director of the Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Agriculture, announced at a press conference in Bishkek.
«The following works have been carried out: repair of canals with a length of 121.6 kilometers, concreting of canals with the length of 30.3 kilometers, mechanized cleaning of 733.2 kilometers of canals. Also, 567 hydraulic structures, 306 gauging posts, 105 pumping stations were repaired, including the repair of 238 pumping units and the replacement of 55 pumping units, mechanized cleaning of 153.4 kilometers of collector and drainage networks was carried out,» he said.
The head of the service noted that such large-scale restoration works of the irrigation system were carried out for the first time since the independence of the republic. The restoration of irrigation system has significantly reduced losses and increased the amount of water supplied to farmers by 20 percent.
