The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) plan to sign an agreement on free trade in organic agricultural products. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reported.
A draft agreement was approved at a meeting of the EEC Board on the procedure for recognizing organic products in the EAEU for intrastate approval by the members of the Union until March 10, 2023. The document provides for the unification of requirements for labeling of organic products sold in the member states, equivalent use of the terms «organic», «biological», «ecological» in the labeling of products, as well as the placement of a single mark of conformity for the production of organic products on its packaging.
«The agreement will make it possible to unify within the EAEU the requirements for the production and labeling of organic products. This will serve as a basis for mutual recognition of certificates of conformity and free circulation of such products. The access of all producers of the EAEU countries to a common market with more than 180 million consumers will be a good incentive for increasing the pace of development of the organic sector in the EAEU, diversifying organic production and deepening the processing of organic products based on cooperation between agricultural producers of the Union countries,» the EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex Artak Kamalyan said.
