The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan proposes to amend the law of the ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information.»
According to the draft resolution, published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers for public discussion, there are shortcomings in the current legislation «which prevent the actual execution of the procedure for appealing against the actions of the owner of the website or page when removing incorrect material.»
The ministry proposes to add a clause requiring from the applicant to provide evidence confirming the unreliability of the disseminated information, which he or she asks to be deleted.
The President Sadyr Japarov signed the Law on protection against inaccurate (false) information initiated by MP Gulshat Asylbaeva on August 23, 2021. The discriminatory document was adopted by the sixth convocation after a meeting with the head of state in violation of all procedures of the regulations. Representatives of the media community and experts have repeatedly stated that the law is directed against independent media. Blocking of the website of Respublica newspaper, partial blocking of 24.kg news agency and blocking of Azattyk are the proof of this.
