Trade with Uzbekistan should be increased to $2 billion

Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev met with the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva at venue of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) in Samarkand.

The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary interaction.

Nurlanbek Shakiev stressed that the development of friendly and good-neighborly relations with Uzbekistan has been one of the priority areas of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy.

«Thanks to the established close and trusting contacts, direct and regular dialogue at all levels, there has been a significant positive trend in the development of bilateral ties in recent years,» Nurlanbek Shakiev said.

Touching upon the issue of inter-parliamentary cooperation with Uzbekistan, the speaker outlined the importance of its further expansion. «I propose to intensify holding of the next meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Parliament and the Oliy Majlis in the near future, as well as mutual visits of parliamentary delegations, deputy friendship groups of the two countries,» the Speaker of the Parliament said.

He expressed willingness of the Kyrgyz side to work together to create favorable conditions for the access of goods and services to the markets of the two countries in order to increase bilateral trade up to $2 billion.

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized the high level of Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation based on similar cultural and spiritual values ​​and principles of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, and also told about the first steps taken to implement China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway construction project.

«It is necessary, with the assistance of parliamentarians, to achieve new tangible results, primarily within the framework of the implementation of bilateral agreements at the highest level, providing their legal basis,» Tanzila Narbaeva said.
